The company was started in 1951 in Germany. The name MELAG is formed from the first letters of Medicine, Laboratory and Devices (in German). Melag were the first to produce small autoclaves with automatic venting, fractionated pre-vacuums and patented air-cooled systems (without using water). 2010 saw the release of mass-produced washer-disinfectors for instrument reprocessing.
