Maintaining independence is a key goal in continence care. For many people living with incontinence, particularly older adults experiencing reduced mobility, the right product can make a significant difference to dignity, confidence and quality of life.
Research shows that 7 in 10 people with incontinence who are cared for at home need help getting dressed and changing1. People who use mobility aids such as wheelie walkers often want to remain as independent as possible but may face challenges when using conventional products. Pull-up pants require reaching the feet and complete undressing during changes, while all-in-one wraparound products can’t be pulled up and down in the same way as underwear for toileting.
Recognising this unmet need, TENA has developed TENA ProSkin Stretch, the first new heavy incontinence product innovation in more than two decades. Designed specifically for people with reduced mobility who may need some assistance with dressing or toileting, TENA ProSkin Stretch helps bridge the gap between traditional pants and all-in-one products.
The product features
· Soft, elasticated side panels that stretch to fit the body and provide a secure, comfortable fit.
· Wide, adjustable tabs make it easier to apply while seated, without the need to fully undress.
· Unlike many traditional products, TENA ProSkin Stretch can also be pulled up and down like underwear, helping users maintain dignity and independence during toilet visits.
Supporting independence is more than a convenience. It is an important component of reablement, helping people stay engaged in daily activities and reducing reliance on carers wherever possible. In usability studies, 95% of users agreed that TENA ProSkin Stretch reduced the need for assistance when changing, reduced assisted toilet visits, and was easier to put on independently2.
As healthcare professionals continue to focus on person-centred care, innovations such as TENA ProSkin Stretch demonstrate how thoughtful product design can help preserve dignity, support independence and improve quality of life for people living with incontinence.
